What UniShack does
Campus apartment search
UniShack organizes off-campus apartments by university so students can begin with the campus they attend. Listing pages bring location, rent, amenities, and contact details together for easier comparison.
Student sublets
Students can list a sublet for free and browse short-term housing posted for their campus. This helps students connect around summer terms, study abroad, and other temporary moves.
Roommate finder
Roommate profiles help students share housing preferences and connect with other students near the same campus. The directory gives that search a dedicated place beyond a one-time social post.
Dorm directory
UniShack also publishes dorm pages that help students compare residence halls and nearby options. The directory adds campus context while directing students to official university channels for applications and current rules.
Property listing and marketing
Property managers can add apartments and reach students already searching near campus. Optional marketing services include promoted placement, social media management, and professionally produced content.

UniShack begins with a student's university and organizes nearby housing around that campus. National marketplaces such as Apartments.com and Zillow begin with a broader city or neighborhood search.
Four housing searches in one place
Students can move between apartments, sublets, roommate profiles, and dorm information for the same campus. That reduces the need to split a search across Zillow, Apartments.com, Facebook Marketplace, and campus groups.
Searchable campus directories
UniShack listings remain organized by campus and housing type, making them easier to revisit and compare. Posts on Facebook Marketplace and campus Facebook groups can move down a feed as new posts appear.
Free for students
Students do not pay UniShack a subscription fee to browse, create a roommate profile, list a sublet, or contact a property. Property managers can choose free listing tools or optional paid marketing services.
Independent campus coverage
UniShack is an independent marketplace and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the universities in its directories. This lets the platform cover off-campus inventory while clearly directing official housing questions to each university.

The team behind UniShack
UCLA student Danny Tang founded UniShack in 2020 after struggling to find affordable housing, putting his education on hold while working and couch surfing in Westwood. He built UniShack so future students could find housing more easily.
Danny leads UniShack with CTO Avery Biskup and a student team spanning product, engineering, marketing, analytics, and client relations. Together, the team works toward one mission: make student housing more accessible.

For students
Choose a campus, select a housing directory, and compare the available options. Students can contact a property or roommate, or create an account to list a sublet, without paying a UniShack subscription fee.
For property managers
Submit a property through the Add Property page. The UniShack team reviews the listing before publishing it, and managers can use the dashboard to manage listing information and leads.
