South Village

South Village is a traditional-style on-campus residence hall at California State University, Los Angeles, at 5500 Paseo Rancho Castilla. UniShack lists it about a 9-minute walk from University Library. Cal State LA Housing opened the hall in fall 2021 and describes it as designed to promote community and student success. Official pages say these halls are for residents 23 and under, with one tower designated for residents ages 21 to 23. The Housing and Residence Life Main Office is in South Village Tower 2, and the complex is designated alcohol-free. Housing lists shared rooms for two or three students—most bedrooms are doubles, with a limited number of triples—plus community restrooms and showers, two study lounges and one TV lounge per floor. Furnishings include an extra-long twin bed, a desk and chair per student, and a wardrobe with drawers. The official hall page also lists Wi-Fi, TV and movie streaming, onsite laundry, a Learning Center, a Wellness Zone, a community kitchen, and central heat and air. Village Commons, the buffet dining hall, and Village Market sit on the South Village ground floor. A meal plan is required for South Village residents and is selected when you apply to live on campus. Applicants who apply on time can request roommates in groups of two or three through the Roommate Wizard in the Housing Portal. UniShack records the primary deadline as rolling (first-come); Cal State LA Housing also uses a priority deadline after which applicants may be waitlisted. UniShack does not assign rooms.
