Unit 3

Unit 3 is undergraduate residence-hall housing at the University of California, Berkeley. UC Berkeley Housing places the complex one block south of campus at 2400 Durant Avenue, near Sproul Plaza, the Student Union MLK Jr. Building, and the Student Center. UniShack lists it at Channing Way and Telegraph Avenue on the Southside, about an 11-minute walk from campus. First-year, continuing, and transfer undergraduates are eligible. Four high-rise halls—Ida Sproul, Norton, Priestley, and Spens-Black—surround a large central courtyard. Mid-rise Beverly Cleary Hall sits across the street and has an entry lounge. Rooms are traditional corridor-style along a shared hallway, with communal bathrooms and lounges; UC Berkeley Housing also lists some Unit 3 rooms in suites. Doubles, triples, and a limited number of singles are offered, and singles are typically reserved for students with a documented disability need. High-rise buildings have eight floors of double- and triple-occupancy rooms. Most floors are all-gender, and single-gender floors have single-gender community bathrooms. Some rooms offer panoramic views of the Bay or the Berkeley hills. Theme programs in Unit 3 are UNITY in Spens-Black Hall and Casa Magdalena Mora in Beverly Cleary Hall; Housing lists these living-learning communities at no extra cost. Café 3 dining commons is on-site in the courtyard commons building, along with Bear Market, the unit office, mail services, and rooms for meetings and events. Residence hall rates include the Blue and Gold Meal Plan. Unit 3 has an on-site Academic Center with flexible study spaces. Campus residence-hall rates also include utilities, high-speed Wi-Fi, furnished rooms with a Microchill refrigerator and microwave combo, self-serve laundry, and 24/7 live-in UC Berkeley staff.
