Stern Hall is an on-campus residence hall at UC Berkeley in the Berkeley hills at 2700 Hearst Avenue, next to the Foothill complex on the northeast side of campus—about a 6-minute walk from central campus. Campus housing welcomes womxn-identified undergraduates here, including first-year, continuing, and transfer students. Official pages describe low-rise buildings in a quieter, less urban setting than other residential options, with convenient access to STEM buildings (including the College of Engineering), hiking trails, and views of the Bay.
Housing includes traditional corridor-style rooms along a central hallway that share a communal bathroom and lounges, and suites of two to three rooms with a shared bathroom, a common area, and a separate locked entrance. Double rooms are the most common option; triples and a limited number of singles are also available. Campus housing notes that very few singles exist university-wide and are typically reserved for students with a documented disability need. Rooms are furnished; official layouts show extra-long twin beds (triples include a bunk bed and a lofted bed), desks and chairs, cabinets or dressers, and mirrors. Bedrooms are carpeted and include a Microchill refrigerator and microwave combo.
Residents share Foothill Dining Commons next door and the campus eSports Center with Foothill. Residence hall rates include the Blue and Gold Meal Plan, with upgrades and add-ons available. Official housing lists self-serve laundry, front desk and mailroom services, bike storage, study spaces, a recreation room, a fitness center shared with Foothill, high-speed Wi-Fi, Xfinity streaming TV, utilities, controlled building entry, and live-in UC Berkeley staff available 24/7. Stern’s second floor houses the Empowering Womxn in STEAM (WISE) theme program, which welcomes students who experience life through the lens of womxn in body, spirit, and identity—past, present, future, and fluid—and is designed to be inclusive of transgender, gender-fluid, and nonbinary students.
UniShack is a comparison page and does not assign rooms. First-year students and Fall Program for First Semester students typically apply by May 2; continuing undergraduates, transfers, and other populations have different deadlines. Confirm dates, room preferences, and submit your application on the official UC Berkeley Housing Portal.
